Our Environment Committee has grown! It was so wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout for our second Environment Committee meeting on June 18. We welcomed new members, Via Stidwell, Lizzie O’Callaghan, Matthew Bracknell and Natalie Wallen; a rich mixture of parents and staff with fantastically varied insights and skills to offer.

Natalie (wearing her Project Officer for the Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee hat!) shared with us exciting new funding for GHSS to build a cockatoo garden, including 200 seedlings such as banksias and hakeas, as well as funding for signage and fencing. Our next committee meeting in Term 3 will involve selecting a garden site and sharing ideas for this important new initiative. Watch this space!

The committee also discussed weed management, creek flow, irrigation, accessibility, high school gardens, the bamboo forest, waste management and composting all in under one hour! Thanks to Neal for being Chair extraordinaire and to our new members for coming along. A special shout out to Matthew for updating us on issues relating to the school grounds, as well as Natalie for all her hard work toward looking after one of our state’s most endangered species and supporting our school to be a sanctuary for all creatures great and small.
