Class 8/9 Stories from the Bibb
This term, for the 8-9 class camp, the boys and girls split into two separate groups and walked the Bibbulmun track. The boys started in Denmark, and the girls started on Coalmine Beach. We each hiked for 5 days and finally met each other in the middle in Peaceful Bay.
The camp ran for five days of hard walking; along the way, the boys stopped at many campsites, including William Bay, Parry’s, Boat Harbour, Big Quarram and finally Peaceful Bay. At times, the walk was gruelling; it seemed we were walking up every hill in sight; however, it made it all worth it when he walked the final metres to the camp spot at the end of the day.

The girls' camp started at Coalmine Beach. Getting used to carrying heavy packs was difficult, and the first day felt the hardest. Towards the end of each day, we found ourselves with barely any energy, just waiting to reach the huts at any moment. All in all, I think the burning calves, constantly adjusted bag straps, blistered, and off coloured water were worth it.
A tip from us “experienced” hikers: make sure you know how to sing “24 bottles of milk on the wall”!
The campsites are beautiful and the sunrises were amazing - when you were dragged out of bed to see them! We have many memories from this camp, some funny, some beautiful and some traumatic, but it was a great experience to do this with friends. I'm not sure that everyone would say this, but I would definitely do it again.
